In this day and age, virtual assistants are quickly becoming more and more entrenched in many people’s daily lives and routines, and Amazon’s Alexa has become a firm favorite across households everywhere.
And kids are getting in on the voice-activated fun, too. In fact, it wouldn’t be surprising if a lot of kids’ first word turns out to be “Alexa.”
Zoé Turner may only be two years old, but she already knows exactly what she wants Alexa to do.
Alexa is an amazing home assistant – you can ask it to read a book aloud or even play your favorite song. But, even though it’s an incredible piece of technology, it is still an AI after all.
For little Zoé, unfortunately, Alexa didn’t do exactly what she wanted.
In a video that’s gone seriously viral, two-year-old Zoé walks into the kitchen and approaches the device. She gives it a voice command, asking it to play her favorite song.
But Alexa is having difficulty understanding what the tot is trying to say.
The preschooler from Wisconsin just wanted to bop to her favorite beat when she got home from school, but Alexa begins to play “Baby Hold Back” by Say Anything. Wrong!
Zoé tries again and again.
The toddler is growing more exasperated by the minute, but viewers are getting a complete cuteness overload.
Zoé continues to ask Alexa to play her song: “ALEXA! Play…(unintelligible)”
But Alexa just doesn’t understand her baby-speak. The adorable little girl doesn’t give up, though. “Alexa! Alexa!” she pleads.
It’s a good thing that Zoé’s mom is recording everything – the moment is just too cute to miss!
The video, uploaded on Viral Hog’s YouTube channel, has a short description from Zoé’s mom, Cryssy Turner:
“My baby girl loves to listen to music and dance when she comes home from school. I usually tell Alexa to play the music, but, Zoé wanted to try for herself that day. Zoé tried to communicate with Alexa for five minutes before I started recording. When she finally gave up and asked me for help, she was overjoyed to finally dance to her favorite song.”
After several frustrating minutes of trying to get Alexa to understand her, little Zoé’s mom comes to the rescue.
“Alexa, play Baby Shark,” she commands.
Zoé hears the intro to her favorite jam and smiles so widely that it would make anyone’s heart melt. Then, she begins to dance.
The video gained so much traction that Zoé became an internet sensation – and her cute little “Baby Shark” dance is everything.
In fact, everyone was so taken with the tiny tot that she and her parents were called in for an interview on TODAY.
But Cryssy never thought the video would become so popular. It was her mother’s idea to upload the video in the first place:
“My mom’s the one who told me to put (the video) up on Facebook. She said, ‘That’s the kind of stuff that goes viral,’ ” the proud mom told TODAY.
And boy, was she right! The video has gained over 13 million views since it was posted.
