Zoe, their 3-year-old child, was diagnosed with leukemia. And because of her condition, she had to miss out on a lot. She couldn’t be on the streets or play with the other kids in their neighborhood.

Zoe’s parents prepared for Halloween.

However, it was totally different from what other parents do. Instead of setting up baskets of candies on their porch, they had to put up a sign.

It read:

“Sorry, no candy. Child with cancer. See you next year!”

Zoe’s parents didn’t put up the sign to send kids away.

They just didn’t want to have to say no to trick-or-treaters and see the disappointed look on their faces. That would be heartbreaking for them.

TJ and Courtney were surprised after seeing the kids’ reactions to the sign.

Through their doorbell camera, they saw kids walking up to their yard and reading the sign. And instead of getting disappointed because they wouldn’t be getting candies, the kids ended up leaving some of their own treats for Zoe.

Right after seeing that, Courtney started crying.

She didn’t see just one kid doing it. In fact, she saw kid after kid leaving candies under the sign for their daughter. The mom took a photo of the act of kindness and shared it on Facebook.

When some of the kids were asked why they did such a thing, they gave really touching answers.

One of them said:

“I wanted to give back to them.”

Another one answered:

“It’s somebody’s little girl.”

The family really needed that dose of empathy.

They’re already going through a lot and knowing that other people care about them gives a sense of hope and relief.

In an interview with CBS News, Zoe’s parents shared:

“During this crazy time with everything going on in the world – just the gesture of, ‘Hey, we’re all in this together.’ And just to remind each other there’s still hope and love.”

“This is how kindness multiplies: one person does it, then another sees it and is inspired to do the same, then others, and others, and still more. A perfect cascade effect. And a humbling one, at that.”

There was also this person who said:

“Thank you. It warms my heart knowing that sweet innocent children are still around and that humanity still has hope. Good people are still around.”

Another YouTube user shared:

“OK this story took a sudden turn and left me in puddle of tears! Out of the blue! Thank you, kids – you don’t know how many people you helped with your kind deeds!”
