I can't believe I never knew this. 🤦

Summer is just around the corner.

And you know what that means – school is out and the pool’s out. Together with backyard barbecues and playing videogames all day, taking a dip is one of the most prevalent activities.

It comes with some hiccups, however. One of which is the water can be a bit too cold for your kid’s liking. For us adults, taking a dip to cool off is no problem. But for kids, this might result in summer-time sniffles.

To answer this problem, a mom took to Instagram to share her genius idea.

First-time mum Autumn Grace, more commonly known for her Instagram handle @honestlyautumnb, posts reels for simple hacks and tips about motherhood.

Her videos cover a range of tips like feeding your kids, food preparation, transportation logistics for babies, and many more.

One of her hacks covers heating up the pool water in the simplest way possible.

For this hack, you’ll only need one item. Yes, and the beautiful thing about it is it’s can be found in your pantry. Almost any household has a roll of black garbage bags and these are the only things you’ll need.

The task is easier the smaller pool you have. In the video, she showed an inflatable pool about a meter and a half across.

Then, all you need to do is cover the water with garbage bags. You don’t even need to cut it. You just have to lay them over the water and make sure every part of the surface is covered.

Why garbage bags?

Well, this doesn’t work on any garbage bag. It should be the black ones. Black absorbs light and heat and reflects none, that’s why it’s easy to heat the water up with these plastic bags.

And since you’re just covering a pool filled with clean water, you can just fish out the bags after use, dry them, use some for rubbish, then re-use some as a pool cover.

But don’t use whatever you used for trash as a pool cover! We don’t want these kids getting sick, especially at a time when all they have to do is sit back and chill.

The video has since gained traction.

In another video, she showed how to protect your pool water from leaves and other materials from nature. Since it is pool season, you’d have to be ready for some pool chores.

To lessen the cleaning time, she places a tarp over the water. You can also use plastic in place of a tarp. This way, insects and other materials won’t go floating as your kids take themselves for a dip.

As for bigger pools, especially those below ground – well we just hope you have a net scooper to get those leaves in the middle of the pool.

And since pool season is almost upon us, here are some safety reminders.

First, always have an adult supervising the kids when they’re in the water. Don’t let sick kids get into the pool with the others especially when small pools don’t use disinfectants.

Always clean the pool after use, including other toys like floaters, balls, and other inflatables.
