“She appeared to be crying hysterically…she was holding her baby against her shoulder so I stopped the car and I jumped out and I went over to her.” – Officer Trouche

The mother immediately handed her baby to Trouche and he noticed that the baby’s face was turning blue. After telling the mother to do a finger sweep of the baby’s mouth, he proceeds with back thrusts to clear the airway.

The officer needed to call for help but didn’t want to alarm the mother.

The situation was getting extremely stressful for the mother and the officer and he didn’t want to make it any worse. Trouche turned to his family and mouthed the words ‘call 911.’

While waiting for 911 emergency to arrive, Trouche didn’t stop his efforts to help the baby.

In the video, you see him holding the baby under the stomach with the baby’s face pointed toward the ground. The officer may have been worried but he remains calm and in control. Thankfully after 2-3 minutes, the baby started coughing, threw up, and started to cry. This was the sound that the officer was hoping to hear.

“That’s when I knew the airway was clear at that point.” – Officer Trouche

The officer told Fox KTVU that the mother embraced her baby once she heard the cries. “I just feel like I was at the right place at the right time.” – Officer Trouche

Officer Trouche’s heroic actions saved the baby’s life and he was commended by his Police Captain, Brian Bubar. Bubar made a point to praise Trouche’s bravery and quick thinking saying that he was “compelled into action and we’re really grateful that he was there.” – Fox KTVU

Officer Trouche doesn’t think of himself as a hero despite saving the baby’s life.

“I definitely don’t feel like a hero I think anybody in that situation that seen her there as distraught as she was would probably try to do the same thing.” – Trouche said to Fox KTVU
