Mom’s heart melts when she gets photo of son’s twin on “twin day”
He'd insisted that they looked alike.

Making friends is something that gets harder with age, so if you’re still besties with a pal from kindergarten, count yourself lucky!

Most of us have vague memories of making friends during this early stage of life. It seemed less as if we were actively seeking out another person’s attention and more as if we were simply joined together through a love of playing in the sandpit, skipping in the playground, or getting creative with Play-Doh.

One mom shared a story of her own kindergartner son, Myles, that’s too cute not to pass on.

Myles is inseparable from his new kindergarten friend. The pair play together all the time at school, and hope to hang out at one another’s houses when it’s safe to do so again.

When the school hosted its annual “Twin Day”, there was no question about who Myles wanted to match.

One night, before, bed, he told his mom, Britney Tankersley, that he wanted to be paired with his buddy Tanner.

According to Myles, he and Tanner looked near-identical, so of course they had to be “twins”.

Britney didn’t know what to think at first. She wasn’t sure who Myles was talking about, and she knew she’d have to reach out to this little boy’s mom to arrange matching outfits.

But Myles continued to tell his mom about how he and tanner looked alike, saying:

“We both have brown eyes, we both have dark hair.”

Mom Britney eventually headed to Walmart at the last minute, feeling a little annoyed, because it was late and she was tired.

She had already spent an hour attempting to track down Myles’ friend’s mom, with no luck. So, at 9 pm, she stopped by at the store and came across two plaid buttondown shirts that read “Future Leader” above their pockets.

Having gone to so much effort to buy the matching outfits, Britney darn sure wanted a photo to make it all worthwhile.

She asked Myles’ teacher to send her a photo of her son and his “Twin” when the day came around.

When Britney received the photo, as promised, she was touched. She recalled:

“Obviously two very different children, but Myles didn’t see that. Wouldn’t the world be such a better place if we could all view it through the eyes of a couple five-year-olds?”

She burst into tears immediately, and later explained:

“I was basically crying because it was so sweet. Obviously, I know that they don’t look alike at all. But he didn’t see that, you know? I expect to get a picture of another white child with light skin and brown hair, whatever, but I didn’t get that at all. And I said, ‘That is the sweetest thing in the whole world.’”

Britney couldn’t resist sharing her adorable story to her personal Facebook account, and it quickly went viral, racking up thousands of reactions, shares and comments.

After Twin Day, Britney was able to track down Tanner’s mom, and learned that the boys only live down the road from one another. Plenty of opportunity for playdates in the future, then!

Britney is right when she says that the world would be a better place if we all saw it through the eyes of a child.
