We’ve all heard the story of the Good Samaritan, but if we are honest with ourselves, would we help a stranger? Truth be told, doing the right thing isn’t always as easy or clear when it comes to our daily lives. In a world where we are constantly bombarded with pain and suffering across the world, feeling helpless is often a reason we don’t do things for those who need it. For one restaurant owner, however, that just wasn’t an option.

A woman’s journey from Chile to Miami was almost cut short when something life-threatening happened on the last leg of the journey. The traveling woman had gone through hell and was about to experience one last challenge. Incredibly, the woman went through all of this during a late-stage pregnancy.

The mom-to-be is Haitian and was traveling from Chile to Florida with her family.

The trip may sound strange, but many Haitian workers began seeking work in Chile after the earthquake back in 2010. The trip would take a total of 3 months and required travel through 11 different countries.

During her trip, the woman was robbed multiple times and injured.

Over the course of the trip, the poor woman went through a lot. She had been robbed multiple times and by the time she made it to Miami, she was injured. In fact, the pregnant woman began bleeding as she was getting off one of the final buses she was planning on taking.

At the same time the pregnant woman was walking in Miami, Stela Niznik, a restaurant owner in the area, was just finishing her yoga class.

“On my way to work on Monday morning I noticed a car parked in the middle of the street right after a bridge between Brickell and Downtown. After taking a closer look I saw a pregnant woman, a man, a little girl, and an older lady. The pregnant woman was wearing a dress and her legs were covered in blood.” – GoFundMe

Calling the authorities, Stela realized she had to help the woman right away if they were going to save the baby. If it was going to happen, it was going to happen right in the middle of the road.

Grabbing towels from her car, Stela (who co-owns Chicken and The Egg) got to work. With the assistance of a 911 operator, she helped deliver the woman’s baby.

“Mom and I delivered baby Darlie on a boardwalk in Downtown Miami at 8:45 am on 02/07.”

Now, with the woman and her baby safe, Stela is looking to help her out. Since then, they have set up a GoFundMe in order to help the family make a new home in America.

Incredibly, they’ve raised over 30k!

The goal of the GoFundMe was to raise 30k for the family to pay bills and establish themselves in America for a better life. As tough as it was, the hard work and publicity from the crazy delivery actually helped! Currently, the GoFundMe is at 31k and is likely to grow!

The money will go towards a home, clothing, food, and medical bills for the family.

“The funds will be transferred into my bank account until we open up a bank account for Darlie. The family is aware of the funds and I am currently handling their bills until the family has their own bank account.”

Stela believes she was meant to be there that day, and the new mom thinks that God put her there. In an interview with Local 10, Stela shared:

“There is definitely a special connection … She definitely came into the world and made her first friend … I don’t think it was a coincidence that I just happened to be there and that I just happened to stop.”
