Mother-of-two Dannette Glitz of Sturgis, South Dakota had no idea she was going to deliver triplets that day.

She didn’t even know that she was pregnant with one baby let alone three.

She thought the pain she was feeling was from kidney stones.

“I started getting pains, I figured it was kidney stones because I’ve went through them before,” Dannette told KOTA.

The thought that this discomfort could be labor pains never crossed her mind.

But her 10-year-old son Ronnie Giltz said he had a hunch. He had been waiting for a new baby brother for a while.

“One time I seen a shooting star and I wished for a baby brother, and I wished for like two sisters for my little sister because she always wanted a little sister, I knew this day was always going to come,” he said.

When she got to the urgent care, Dannette was told that she was pregnant. They told her it was likely that she was carrying twins.

“So, went to urgent care thinking I’m going to have to have surgery to break the stones up. Well, doctor comes back in after doing a urine sample and said your pregnant. So, they got the portable heart monitor they use and did an ultrasound and said there are possible twins,” Dannette wrote on Facebook.

Dannette was advised to go to the local hospital. That’s where she was told that she would need a C section and that she was probably having triplets instead of twins.

“It was quiet; we thought they were done,” Dannette said. “He’s over there, kind of like rocking, like, thinking of the names and then she’s like, ‘Well, we need another blanket’ and his reaction is like, ‘Excuse me? Put it back. No. I was told I have twins; I’m not doing triplets.’ She’s like, ‘No, there’s three babies in here; there’s triplets.’ “

The three babies were born on Aug. 10 at 34 weeks each weighing 4 pounds.

Their son was named Blaze and their daughters Gypsy and Nikki.

“You don’t ever see triplets being conceived naturally, let alone going 34 weeks without knowing,” Dannette said.

“So, everyone’s like I can’t believe it, I’m like we’re still in shock, trust me, we know what you mean like I go to the doctor’s thinking I’ll have surgery for kidney stones and end up going into labor with a c-section that night. It’s crazy.”

Dannette said she didn’t have morning sickness or any other indication that she might be pregnant. And dad was just as surprised as mom.

“I’m overwhelmed honestly, it’s still exploding in my head,” said father Austin Giltz.

Friends and family from her Black Hills Community showed up to support the family. Even complete strangers donated supplies.

A Facebook fundraiser was held and raised almost $2,000.

“It’s amazing in a small town how many people will come together for stuff that’s not expected,” said Dannette.
