It’d be difficult to name one significant thing our mothers did for us because there are too many; it’s impossible just to pick one. A mother’s love is always so great, and we can’t fathom its depth and vastness with a few words or examples of how they show their love.
From the little things like writing a good luck note inside our lunch boxes, or the great ones such as their sacrifices to give us a good life, our mothers would do anything and everything to provide for us.
And this story is about one mother who showed her love for her daughter in the best way possible: being her surrogate mother.
Kaitlyn’s Dilemma
Kaitlyn Muniz has Sjögren’s Syndrome, a rare autoimmune disease that only occurs in less than or equal to 1% of the population. This syndrome leaves a person with damaged kidneys after giving birth. Kaitlyn had this after giving birth to her firstborn named Callahan.
She wanted a second baby so much, but it seemed like she had hit a roadblock with her condition. Kaitlyn realized that she had another option through In Vitro Fertilization, so she went on with the process and had two of her embryos frozen. All she needed now was a surrogate to bear her child.
Chalise’s Love for Kaitlyn
Kaitlyn and her mom Chalise Smith have always considered each other best friends since she was little until now that she is a full-grown woman. What she didn’t know was that her mother would do something she never thought she would.
Chalise offered Kaitlyn to be her surrogate mother. This made sense to both, and the process only strengthened the strong bond they already had.
Health concerns for Chalise
Chalise gave birth to eight children, and being a surrogate mother to one of them posed some important health concerns.
“[I was] going to be 50… I have a bad right leg, [and] just with pregnancies, the sciatic nerve gets pinched off,” she told FOX News.
So, they made sure that Chalise went through the entire IVF and surrogacy process to make sure she was 100% healthy. They got the medical clearing soon enough, and Kaitlyn’s frozen embryos were placed in September 2021.
However, she was surprised and admitted that it was one of the easiest pregnancies she had ever had. She and Kaitly were happy that the result of their decision to give birth through IVF was everything they had hoped for.
The birth of Alayna Kait Chalise Munoz
On May 17 at 9 PM, Chalise gave birth to Kaitlyn’s daughter, Alayna Kait Chalise Munoz, at American Fork Hospital. She weighed a healthy seven pounds and 13 ounces and was 21 inches long.
Alayna’s birth may not be typical, but it was something Kaitlyn considered a good story she would soon tell her daughter when she is older – that she and her mom grew in the same uterus.
It sure is a unique story to tell and one that remarkably showed how much Alayna’s grandmother loved her and her momma so much.
