What is the wackiest thing that you and your friends have ever done? What about you and your mom?

Here’s a short tale of a mother and daughter’s unique approach to a goofy circumstance at home.

Sometimes we tend to forget things, and that is totally normal.

When you left dirty laundry on the floor, what did your mom do? What do you do if you’re a mother and your children do it?

All too often a kid would ignore something they’ve forgotten, whether in the kitchen, in the living room, in their own room if they have one already, and of course in their playroom.

Here’s how it went down.

Xep Campbell of Port Townsend, Washington, discovered one of her daughter’s very dirty socks on the bathroom floor.

Because this wasn’t the first time something like this had happened, she wanted to try something entirely new instead of picking it up. She writes in her Facebook post,

“I decided not to toss it in the hamper but instead see how long it would stay there, sort of a sociological experiment.”

After a week, Kestrel, her 10-year-old daughter, had still not picked up the sock.

At this point, we are not sure if this means she failed the test or if the time has some deeper sociological significance. That, however, isn’t the issue.

Xep decided to step up her game.

She made a label that reads like a sign at an art installation.

On loan from the collection of the artist.”

She had no idea what was about to happen.

Kestrel texted her mom when she saw the fake plaque on the wall.

When Campbell got home that day her daughter said:

“I made a pedestal for it!”

Well, after all, it’s a museum piece, right? It deserved to be placed on a pedestal. Perhaps a glass case.

And now Campbell declared:

“She gamed my shame.”

In fact, it did!

Campbell thought that, like any true museum piece, this work of art required awestruck admiration.

From here, it looks that mother and daughter simply became more silly and began to have even more fun with the filthy sock.

One of the comments from the post even said:

“You must have some great times in your home. Such great sense of humour.”

Regardless, a crowd had gathered, and not just any group of visitors with cameras from a museum. No way! This was a gathering of barnyard animals.

And it went on and on…

Campbell wrote:

“I came back from walking the dog and this had appeared.”

More artwork for the animals to appreciate. And a gorilla finally joined the barnyard animals. Maybe for a little variety?

Finally, there’s the Christmas theme.

A nativity scene quickly appeared on and around the sock. It’s simply a miracle and more animals heard about the party!

With everything going on, you’d think the family would have a large bathroom, but that’s not the case.

Imagine being groggy in the morning and trying to brush your teeth without tripping over the exhibit.

For those who are friends with Campbell, none of this will come as a surprise. She told Upworthy that she wanted to live her life in such a way that it had a positive impact on the people she met.

Campbell pointed out:

“I always try to take the creative route whenever possible. There is a lot of beige in the world that needs to be countered. There are also endless possibilities to be creative with even the most mundane aspects of life. I tend to go for the weird option when it’s there.”

What an entertaining story!

A unique approach to an all-too-common parenting situation that will help other parents broaden their toolkit.
