It’s easy for some folks to say they want a family.
But for some, getting a family started can be a monumental task.
Abby and Joby Johnston wanted a family.
Unfortunately, for them, it wasn’t as easy as just waiting 9 months.
In what shouldn’t be a problem to most couples, Abby and Joby just couldn’t conceive a child.
They had a home, the time, and the love. But they couldn’t get the kids.
Try as they might, nothing was working.
Surgeries, artificial insemination, and in-vitro fertilization didn’t do anything for them.
They spent so much, only to receive nothing out of it. Abby and Joby were getting desperate – and, quite frankly, a bit sad.
“We were tired of doing the same thing and expecting a different result.”
They might have just given up, but then Abby’s sister had an idea.
Chrissy Knott is three years older than her young sister and already has two boys of her own.
Seeing the plight that her sister and brother-in-law were in, Chrissy had an idea.
Whatever problems Abby had with conceiving, Chrissy had no such problems, which made her the perfect surrogate. First, Chrissy did some research to confirm she could still conceive. With the surrogate option being available, she was eager to pitch the idea to her sister.
“I just remember thinking to myself that if there was anything I could do to help, I would do it.” – Chrissy Knott said
After two years passed, the couple remembered Chrissy’s offer and thought “Why not?”
“The doctor made sure that everyone was OK with the possibility of four babies because it was possible. But, for us, after trying for so long, we were just trying to increase our chances of getting at least one.” – Abby spoke of the arrangement
But there was development along the way that no one expected.
Just as Chrissy was starting to see the results of the surrogate pregnancy, Abby learned that she was pregnant with twins!
Now, what are the odds of that?
I guess this was fate’s way of making up for all the times it didn’t work.
Now, the Johnstons were having quadruplets!
Such big news like this deserves big plans and big accommodations.
Not to worry. The upcoming quadruplets technically have two moms and one dad. Plus, their surrogate mom lives just a few houses away! No shortage of hands there.
Chrissy and Abby found out that they were due roughly at the same time.
So they scheduled C-sections for the same day, to make sure the quadruplets would all have the same birthday.
And then came the big day on October 24. The C-section several years in the making was here, and four healthy babies were delivered in the hospital.
The surprise quadruplets are something out of a fairytale.
Trying for years to have children, only to be blessed with four when they had nearly given up.
It’s another lesson in “Good things come to those who wait”. Thanks to a loving older sister and a bit of luck, the Johnstons now have the big family they always wanted.
