The beautiful thing about adoption is that it gives children of all ages the chance to have legal parents.

But it’s not just about legality, it’s more about being an official member of a family and the feeling of belongingness that it gives to someone.

To sisters Julianna and Gabriella Ruvolo, that’s what they have been missing for the past 12 years. It was like having a puzzle with a missing piece on it.

In the absence of their biological mom, they found that “mother figure” in a woman named Becky.

The sisters’ father, Pete Ruvolo, met Becky and they started dating back in 2010. Just a couple of months after knowing each other, he introduced the girls to Becky.

Recalling their first meeting, Becky said she was “nervous.” While Pete said that introducing his little girls to Becky was way more important to him “because the girls always come first.”

“When I met the girls, I was very nervous, but we hit it off and they were 8 years old at the time. And it kind of just snowballed and flowed from there into our family,” Becky Ruvolo told Good Morning America.

Gladly, everything went smooth like butter. It didn’t take long for the then little Julianna and Gabriella to get along with their dad’s girlfriend.

Pete and Becky eventually tied the knot in 201 3and the girls couldn’t be happier with the turn of events going on in their growing family. Becky came into their lives like a blessing from above.

The sweet girls never called her ” step mom.”

“We were already calling her mom because it felt so natural,” Gabriella said. “We met as friends and then she became mom and it was just, from the start, it was like love at first sight.”

“We always went to her as we would a mom. She was always there for us,” Julianna Ruvolo added.

Who wouldn’t want to be wholeheartedly embraced as a mom by such sweet little girls like them?

Through the years, the girls turned into ladies, however, they felt like they were still missing something in their lives.

They decided to finally complete their puzzle by having its missing piece – Becky.

May 9, Mother’s Day, Julianna and Gabriella rolled out a plan to give Becky a surprise gift. Pete recorded the beautiful moment, the most beautiful present Becky could ever receive.

The sisters handed Becky a photo book and written on each page was their message to their mom. On the last page was the sisters’ ultimate question: “Mom, will you adopt us?”

After reading it, their stepmom for 12 years wasn’t able to grab a hold of her emotions and broke down in tears. The man behind the camera, their father, was most likely sobbing too because of joy.

“To actually see it unfold, just filled me with such a feeling of pride, proud for my girls and for my wife. I know how happy that would make her and it really was such a special moment,” Pete said.
