Little girls look up to their dad and wish that they marry a man like him someday – someone who will love them for who they are.

For college student Sophia Wilcox, the man she considers her father may not be her biological dad, but his love for her is beyond what a real dad can give.

20-year-old Sophia wanted to give something special to her stepdad on Father’s Day.

However, shopping for a unique gift for Brian Sandusky proved to be a very difficult task. She was thinking hard about a perfect gift for her stepdad when she eventually saw a box in her room filled with sticky notes that Brian used to put on her door.

It started during the time that the man was dating her mom. It was during middle school for Sophia, who was dealing with anxiety and depression back then.

“During middle school, my stepdad used to leave me a note on my door each day to inspire me. well, I kept those notes & It’s been 6 years since then. today I gave him those notes back,” she wrote on Twitter.

Through those notes, Sophia felt that she was not alone and that she was supported. She also recognized Brian’s genuine love and care for her, even though she was not his biological daughter.

He loved her as his own and Sophia felt that in every inspiring note she received from her stepdad.

“Those notes are a huge part of my childhood and helping me to get where I’m at today,” Sophia said. “He’s my biggest supporter.”

The notes she got from Brian made Sophia realize that the man loved her mom and that he was there to stay.

Finding Brian and getting to know him and how much he loved them made Sophia realize that you don’t need to be blood-related to feel like family.
